The drawings in this book are a mix of subjects drawn from life, paintings and sculptures in person, from books, online, and instructional videos.
I carried this Handbook with me for five years while I was teaching drawing and painting in several schools as an adjunct instructor. At the end of 2017, I moved out of a rented painting studio to work at home and joined a writing group to improve proficiency, having written a daily journal for most of my adult life. Writing speed and clarity improved in regular meetings with others while publishing a blog, personal essays, short fiction, and free verse poetry. I stopped participating in the writing group in 2021 due to complications of the Covid pandemic. Opportunities to travel resumed after vaccinations became available in March 2022. In 2023, visits to more than forty museum and library shows provided a remarkable wealth of aesthetic joy.
