Handbook 2023

2023-Handbook

. . . . . .

The drawings in this book are a mix of sources, subjects, and methods: working from life, copying artists’ images in person or reproduced in books or online, and studies of lessons from videos. It was a pleasure in 2023 to draw a flock of wild turkeys who periodically visited our suburban back yard.

As a brief background to the years this book covers, in 2017 I was teaching drawing and painting in several schools, moved out of a rental art studio to work at home, and joined a writing group. I’ve been a daily journal writer for several decades. Regular meetings with other writers was beneficial for improved speed and composition of blog posts, personal essays, short fiction, and free verse poetry. The group ended in 2021 after being forced online due to the pandemic. Opportunities to travel increased after vaccinations in 2022. In 2023, visits to more than forty museum and library shows was a personal milestone.
