Experimental Approaches to Color by Zoey Frank

Paintings made during an online course focused on color referencing historical and contemporary painting, to explore and deepen understanding color systems. Develop specific and subtle color relationships working from observation of self-selected still life subjects. In ten live sessions, each week a slide lecture, painting demo, and assignment completed outside of class to solidify each color lesson.

When using oil paint, I work from life in natural light, interested in observations from the mundane to the transcendent, often in dialogue with historical precedents: forms, methods, and subjects, including but not limited to tabletop arrangements, window sills, and landscapes on-site.
