Color Class Oils 2025
Experimental Approaches to Color by Zoey Frank
Paintings made during an online course focused on color referencing historical and contemporary painting, to explore and deepen understanding color systems. Develop specific and subtle color relationships working from observation of self-selected still life subjects. In ten live sessions, each week a slide lecture, painting demo, and assignment completed outside of class to solidify each color lesson.

Being a student in adult workshops has been an invaluable source of fun and growth, gaining insight into myself and my teaching of adults, and enjoying supportive exchange with like-minded individuals of otherwise solitary pursuits.

I make collages using acrylic-painted cotton bond paper & bookbinders glue on bristol or other archival card stock.
Still-Life & Interiors Oils 2007-2016
When using oil paint, I work from life in natural light, interested in observations from the mundane to the transcendent, often in dialogue with historical precedents: forms, methods, and subjects, including but not limited to tabletop arrangements, window sills, and landscapes on-site.
Gouache & Ink Books 2010-2013
Ink, pencil, and gouache in various bound hardcover books, including Stillman & Birn, Moleskine, and handmade from India.
Mylar 2010
Mylar is a plastic coated material popular for its translucent light quality and sensual surface. It is a durable substrate for drawing with a mixture of powdered graphite and oil medium.
Gouache Copies 2008-2012
I paint gouache copies of masterpiece paintings by artists whose work I enjoy and want to learn from. Many of my paintings are published on my blog where they are searchable by artist’s name.
